roll out your puff pastry on a cutting board
use heart-shaped cookie cutters to make a top and bottom piece

Prepare Puff Pastry
when you are cutting out the hearts, wiggle the cookie cutter a little bit when you apply pressure to make sure you cut clean thru
Quick Tip:
cut a couple lines on half of the hearts for vents
be careful not to cut
end to end
be careful to leave a bit of space around the edges
Step 4:
Cut Vents
now, crack your egg and separate the egg white and egg yolk
add a tablespoon of water to the egg yolk and gently mix to create an egg wash

Prep Egg Wash
add a bit of filling to the bottom heart
be careful not to overfill
brush a bit of the egg wash around the perimeter of the bottom heart
Step 5:
Add Filling
gently place one of the hearts with the vents cut on top and carefully press down
stretch the top a little if needed to fit and tuck in any apples sticking out
Step 6:
Add Top Heart
take a fork and press around the edges to secure the top and bottom together
Step 7:
Close Top & Bottom
place on a lined cookie sheet
brush the egg wash on the tops of the hearts
bake according to puff pastry package instructions
