Easy 15 minute baked brie recipe

Today I am sharing my easy 15 minute baked brie recipe as part of a Christmas Blog Hop – 14 bloggers sharing festive DIY’s, decor ideas to inspire you this holiday season

Hello there! I know that things get super busy during the Holiday’s.

Sometimes you need a quick and easy, but elegant appetizer, and this easy 15 minutes baked recipe happens to be a favorite of mine.

It’s actually pretty amazing ANY time of year.

So be warned, once your friends taste this, they will request it over and over again.

The recipe is SUPER simple.

Here’s what you need for your baked brie

  • puff pastry
  • brie cheese
  • 1 egg
  • crackers or bread
  • herbs [optional]
  • flavored jam [optional]
  • nuts [optional]

Grab a cookie sheet and a silicone baking mat if you have one.

Silicone mats are great for keeping the puff pastry from sticking to your baking sheet.

I use them for my cookie baking cookies, like these beautiful peppermint meringue wreaths.

Can’t you tell I have baking on the brain?
Let’s get back to our brie.

One of my favorite stores to get all kinds of fun food is Trader Joe’s.

I keep several of these puff pastry boxes on hands at all times during the holiday season.

Honestly, they are great to have on hand all year round.

I love them because they use BUTTER which makes them so delicious.

If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s near you, you can pick them up at most grocery stores.

The other little beauty I find at Trader Joes’ is this slicing brie.
The brick shape is so much easier to wrap with the puff pastry.

The trick to using puff pastry is to make sure it is room temperature.

It makes it nice and pliable.
We are going to be wrapping the puff pastry around the brie.
But I am going show you how to make a simple braided look.

The finished baked brie will look so pretty, your friends will be awed.

Gently unfold the puff pastry and lay it on parchment paper.

Then fold the edge over to the opposite side, as shown in the image below

Then make a cut on each side of the puff pastry according to the width of the cheese

This makes it easier to fold up and make a little pocket

A question I am asked often is

Should You Remove the Rind From Brie Cheese?

there is no need to remove it.

The rind of brie cheese is absolutely edible, so there is no need to remove it.

Leaving the rind on brie cheese adds a nutty, earthy flavor to it.

Repeat this step on the opposite side.

You will want the puff pastry to overlap on the top and bottom of brick of brie.

Say that 3 times fast, bottom brick of brie…

Once you have the top and bottom of the puff pastry folded over.

Use a sharp knife and cut at an angle and remove a triangle piece of puff pastry.

This step removes some of the bulk and keeps the braid nice and even.

Now you want to cut diagonal strips about one inch thick along the edge of the puff pastry like this

The strips of puff pastry will overlap alternately to create a pretty braid design

Cut the other side of the puff pastry the same way.

One inch strips, opposite angle, like an arrow pointing down.

All you need to do now place alternate the puff pastry strips across the block of brie.

Criss cross them all the way down and cut off any excess.

It may look difficult, but I can assure you, it is super easy to create this gorgeous braid.

You will see that it completely elevates the look of your baked brie.

Make sure you don’t have any exposed brie

Otherwise, when it bakes, the cheese will melt and ooze out.

You do not want to loose any of this golden cheesy goodness.

Just take the edges and gently press the puff pastry dough over any gaps.

Isn’t it pretty all wrapped up?
Now gently place your baked brie on your silicone mat covered baking sheet.

Grab that egg (I am sure you were wondering what we needed that egg for)

Make an egg wash using the egg, 2 tbs of water and a pinch of salt.

Then brush it over your beautifully braided brick of brie.

Because soon we will have a beautifully braided brick of baked brie!

An egg wash gives the puff pastry a beautiful golden crust.

Now pop that beauty in the oven and bake according to the puff pastry baking instructions – this one is 10 to 12 minutes at 400 degrees.

Then head over to the pantry and grab your favorite jam or spread and a complimentary chopped nut.

Jams and spreads are a staple I keep in my pantry, because they can add flavor to so many recipes and charcuterie boards.

They are so great for holiday entertaining.

I picked a couple raspberry preserves from my trip to the Biltmore

But this cherry chai jam will be so loverly and festive!

These artisanal crackers (similar to water crackers) will be amazing.

Another great alternative would be a loaf of warm french bread.

Then sit back and relax for a few minutes while your brie braid bakes

Oh, my – I wish you could smell this.

And look at that gorgeous baked puff pastry!

Now for the extra yummy goodness.

Place your beautiful (and easy) braided baked brie on a pretty serving dish and garnish with a complimentary herb.
I used rosemary.

It is one of my favorite herbs and compliments the brie nicely.
Plus it looks Christmasey!

Finally spread the jam on top of the golden puff pastry and sprinkle with nuts.

Chopped almonds will complement the cherry chai jam.

This is the best part!

Engage all the senses…

Cutting into the braided baked brie and seeing the golden river of melty goodness with a buttery puff pastry crust

And it smells SOOO GOOD

Time to scoop it up with a cracker and enjoy!

See, wasn’t that an easy?
Once you have your baked brie, the options are endless.

Try a fig jam with walnuts
Or peach preserves with almonds and thyme

Just check ahead to make sure none of your guests (or you!) has nut allergies, then you can simply eliminate the nuts.
